Heading Into the Battle of Ohio

Coach Jim Tressel on his call-in show on 1460 The Fan just announced that running back Chris Wells will miss this Saturday's kickoff with Ohio because of a foot/toe injury.

What does that mean for Beanie's availability the next week against USC? Tressel said he wasn't worried about it.

Maurice Wells will take Beanie's spot in the starting lineup. The senior tailback averaged 6.4 yards per carry with five touches last week against Youngstown State. He played in all 13 games last year picking up an average of 28.2 yards per game.

Also on the injury front, safety Kurt Coleman is expected to play against the Bobcats. He's been recovering from a sprained ankle.

However, Brian Rolle, who was in on 4 tackles for the Scarlet and Gray last week, has sustained a concussion. He's sidelined.

Finally, a note unrelated to the team's health: Defensive coordinator Jim Heacock says the battle for a starting spot along the defensive line is so tight, he needed to wait until after Thursday's practice to set the depth chart at that position.

Heading into Thursday's workout, he told reporters that Nader Abdallah, Doug Worthington, Todd Denlinger, and Dexter Larimore were all battling for a spot on the interior. Obviously, all these players will see significant time this week. Rob Rose and Cameron Heyward also contributed at tackle versus Youngstown State and should do so again when the Cats come calling.
