Deja Vu
Ohio State fans have already started looking for a common denominator to their last three losses on the national stage. They don't have to look far. In fact, the performance of the offensive line is statistically identical in their matchups with Florida ('06), LSU ('07), and USC ('08). Each time the Buckeyes gave up five sacks.
After the loss in LA, running back Boom Herron was critical of the play of the offensive line. Receiver Brian Hartline said receivers were open, but, "the ball couldn't get in the air."
Plus, this latest defeat to the Trojans of Southern California will be the toughest to bounce back from. Adversity can build unity or it can disintegrate team chemistry. Judging by the look of the OSU players on the sidelines Saturday, it will take a lot more than a pep talk to bring this team back together.
On top of that, the Scarlet and Gray now has a quarterback controversy on their hands. If the players up front are failing to keep pressure off the signal caller, it's legitimate to ask if OSU wouldn't be better off with their more mobile option: Terrelle Pryor.
There's still a lot of football left to be played this season, but at this point, it's hard to tell if that's good news or bad.
